You’re right Doug, this is far from the only way. However, it’s probably the most effective and practical way of doing things.

There’s a lot of literature out there on how we behave. The general consensus is that pain is a better motivator than pleasure. Perhaps I’m wrong, but it certainly explains why self-improvement is easy to talk about and difficult to execute.
